Advanced Search

The GIS Portal is Montana's primary catalog of GIS data.   Its focus is to facilitate access by GIS professionals to data for their mapping and spatial analysis applications.   It also has a map viewer that allows anyone to view online map services.

Here are some things you can try:

  • Launch the map viewer!
  • Type a word in the search box to look for GIS data about that subject. Put quotes around any phrase you want to search for, such as "school district".
  • Use the Advanced Search page to specify what region you want data for, what kind of data you want, how new or old the data should be, or what publisher you are interested in.
  • Create an account for yourself so that you can save searches you have conducted and maps you have made.
  • Look in the Framework Areas, Data Categories, or Applications Areas more information and lists of data that people in the GIS community feel are especially valuable.
  • If you want your data to be in the Portal, or if you want to manage a Data Category or Applications Area, please use the Feedback link to contact us.
